3 ways to increase and get more app downloads in 2019.

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

Seth Godin fans out there? Notice the article graphic we selected? We wanted to come up with some great ideas to help you get more app downloads.

Oh, and if you don't know the reference, we are talking about The Purple Cow book that Seth Godin wrote. Google it.

So you want to get more app downloads?

178.1 billion apps have been downloaded in 2017 according to Statista.

Also, Statista confirms as of the 3rd quarter in 2018, 2.1 million apps were reported on the Google Play Store and almost 2 million were reported on the iTunes App Store.

How do you compete with over 4 million apps available to users?

That is where we come in and save the day.

Strategy 1: Use Social Media Influencers

Social media influencers are no different from regular influencers that have been used for decades in marketing and advertising. The main difference is that social media influencers have the power of scale with the internet.

Recent data has come from Klear and stated that over 1.5 million Instagram posts were tagged with the FTC-mandated #Ad and #sponsored hashtags in 2017.

Below is a unique step by step guide how to leverage these influencers.

We wanted to be very clear that this is a unique strategy. This is not repeat information found online. We wanted to think outside the box for you and come up with a completely unique strategy.

Let's think different. Let's act different.

1 - Identify the top 10 influencers that relate to your app. Let's say you built a fitness tracking app. Find the top 10 influencers and take note what they do well, how engaged is their social community and make sure they can represent your brand well.

2 - Now you identified the top 10 influencers, don't use them. Find the second tier influencers. This is the true power of influencer marketing on social media. The top influencers are getting messaged non stop and will likely miss your message and also will charge you absurd amounts of money. Your best CPM will come from the 2nd tier influencers.

Here is how to identify them.

  • 250k - 500k followers

  • High comments & engagements on their posts

  • They really have value driven content

3 - Reach out to them and come up with a deal for them to help post and share your mobile app. We can't give you a play by play here because every deal is different. What are you willing to give up? What are they willing to take? That is on you to figure it out.

Strategy 2: Referral Promotion

A great example of an app referral promotion was the Robinhood app. When you signed up for Robinhood, they offer a free stock they randomly picked for you when you invited friends to sign up for the app.

This was a brilliant move because who doesn't like free stuff? They also leveraged big brand names like Apple, Ford and Sprint by suggesting you could possibly unlock a free stock in these companies.

The Robinhood App currently has over 4 million brokerage accounts and is rivaling apps like Etrade and many others. This app was not a new concept or something that the large competitors could not do, they just executed better.

Our recommendation to you is simple. People trust their family and friends. Use that.

Strategy 3: Reviews Promotion

App store reviews will help you rank higher than non reviewed apps. This is apart of a larger app store optimization strategy that will help you skyrocket past competition. The higher your app is positioned and easier to find, the more app downloads you could potentially obtain.

Below is a step by step guide how to increase app reviews with a promotion and result in more app downloads.

  1. When users download your app, prompt them to leave a review for your app.

  2. Make sure you have a compelling offer like credits to your app or some reward.

  3. Put a time limit on this such as "You have 3 days to earn credits to leave a review, review now"

in 2017, Spiegel Research Center found that nearly 95% of shoppers read online reviews before making a purchase.

The Grand Summary

The grand takeaway here is to make sure you have some type of strategy in place for getting app downloads. There are over 4 million apps on the app stores and growing year by year. The old notion of build an app and people will download it is gone.

Marketing and promoting your app is more important than today.
