Create Your Own Geofilters with Snapchat

Yesterday, we talked about the surging popularity of Snapchat, and how to take advantage of it’s picture and video sharing features. Today, I’d like to talk to you about another awesome feature from Snapchat: geofilters. If you’ve ever taken a selfie in a big city or at a college campus, you may have noticed that there are specialized filters for the location you’re in. Those are called geofilters, different filters that pop up for a particular geographic location. By now, almost any decently sized city has one, and they are used to promote local culture. But geofilters aren’t just used to commemorate your time in a city. Different brands have also made their own custom geofilters for promoting their brand. Right now, you can take a picture, swipe through the filters, and you will probably see a filter for the movie Deadpool.

Geofilters aren’t just for big brands with huge add budgets. With the help of a graphic designer, you can create your own geofilter for your brand, and promote your business through Snapchat. The process is actually quite simple, as demonstrated through Snapchat’s geofilter tutorial. Once your image has been made, all you have to do is select a location on the map to geofence, and your filter will be created. Many brands have been doing this with great success. Dunkin Donuts had great customer participation with their Grammy-themed filter.

If you’re willing to invest resources into Snapchat, take advantage of this unique feature. Getting a younger demographic to support your business now will create loyal customers for the future.
